Why add battery storage in Moray?
Moray's long summer days mean a solar PV system can generate a lot of electricity during the day — often more than a household uses at the time. Without a battery, that surplus is exported to the grid. A home battery stores the surplus so you can use it in the evening and overnight, increasing how much of your own generation you consume and reducing what you buy from the grid.
Retrofitting a battery to existing solar
If you already have solar panels on your Moray home, we can usually retrofit a battery storage system to your existing installation. We assess your current inverter, generation pattern and usage to recommend the right battery capacity. AC-coupled and DC-coupled options are available depending on your setup.
What size battery do I need?
Battery capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). A typical Moray home pairs a solar PV array with a battery of around 5–15 kWh, depending on generation and evening usage. Our no-obligation survey looks at your actual consumption and generation to recommend the right size — we do not quote one-size-fits-all figures.
Battery storage for off-peak and load shifting
Even without solar, a battery can be charged on a cheaper off-peak tariff and discharged during peak hours, reducing your electricity costs. This is particularly useful for homes on time-of-use tariffs. When paired with solar, a battery maximises self-consumption first and can top up from the grid on cheap overnight rates.
Backup power
Some battery systems provide backup power during a grid outage, keeping essential circuits running. If backup is a priority for your Moray home — particularly in more rural Speyside locations — let us know and we can specify a system with that capability.
Finance and planning
Finance available, subject to status. We can talk through options when we call you back with your quote. Solar on most homes is permitted development in Scotland; listed buildings and conservation areas need consent — check with Moray Council. Battery storage installed inside a home generally does not require planning permission in its own right.
